Michael Nelson

Associate Architect

Michael attained his Part III qualification in 2011 having gained a MArch with Distinction from the University of Dundee in 2007. Prior to joining David Blaikie Architects in 2013, Michael worked for RMJM, Ushida Findlay Architects, LJRH Architects, Allan Murray Architects, and Andre Hodgskin Architects in New Zealand with highlights including working on a contemporary thatched poolhouse while with Ushida Findlay.  His time at this range of practices allowed Michael to gain invaluable experience working on a variety of project types of varying scales.

Michael is responsible for a number of projects within the office and has played a key role as project architect on completed projects including East Claremont Street, Dovelight and Learmonth Terrace

Architects and designers that Michael admires the work of include Peter Zumthor, Fielden Clegg Bradley, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Alison Brooks, Gunnar Asplund, Herzog and de Meuron.

Outside of work Michael enjoys spending as much time as possible with his young family, loves to travel and has a keen interest in DIY, gardening and a variety of sports.
