Söderberg BAKERY SHOPS LONDON
Söderberg SOHO - Berwick Street
Söderberg Wandsworth - Old York Road
Söderberg’s expansion into London marked the next stage in our longstanding collaboration with the Scandinavian bakery and coffee company, following our work on Soderberg Pizza and Soderberg Bakery Shops in Edinburgh.
We were tasked with translating the brand’s established identity into two distinct locations: Berwick Street in Soho and Old York Road in Wandsworth.
Our role encompassed spatial planning, statutory consents and the detailed design of interiors incorporating front and back of house areas, fixed furniture and lighting, adapting Söderberg’s recognisable material palette and design language to suit each setting.
At Berwick Street, Söderberg’s first venture outside Scotland, the brief responded to the energy and density of Soho with a desire for providing both and day and evening service. A carefully planned ground floor bakery and coffee counter was complemented by an intimate basement lounge area. The lower level provides a calmer, more atmospheric setting away from the activity of the street, reliant on our carefully considered lighting design. Together, the spaces support the bakery’s all-day offer while maintaining a calm and refined Scandinavian character within a lively urban context.
The Wandsworth shop takes a more neighbourhood-focused approach, reflecting the character of Old York Road. Here, the design emphasises warmth, natural light and connection to the street, creating an inviting local destination through restrained detailing, natural materials and an evolved expression of the Söderberg brand.
Together, the two projects demonstrate how a consistent architectural language can be adapted to different contexts, strengthening brand identity while responding to the specific opportunities of each location.
